a home for my thoughts

Picture post!

It’s been a while since I’ve been seriously inspired to write. However, I’ve posted a bunch of pictures on my flickr site recently, and thought I’d share some of my personal favorites.

This shot is a cool perspective of a small “bridge” near my favorite spot on the sound.

I’m not sure if I like how I played with the shadow and light saturation, but I still love this shot.

Happy Monday, y’all!

Update:

HOW could I forget this one? This is one of my new all-time favorite pictures.

Meow?

I’ve never wished I had a camera by the bed.

That is, until last night.

I woke up, sometime after dawn, and looked down at the end of my bed. My cats were laid out, sleeping in the shape of a heart.

It was SO CUTE. Both of their heads were snuggled up with the other, with their paws touching. Then, their backs both arched away, in opposite directions, with their back paws meeting again. I wish I had a camera, because it was so FREAKING adorable. Then, I went back to sleep.

In lieu of sharing that image with you, I share a favorite from a walk I took last week.

The trees are blooming, and the birds are singing.

Happy Love Thursday, y’all.

Banners

P1050636

My dad too is unemployed. Long story short, he thought he was opening the shop with my mom, but plans changed.

So, this past month, he’s been working on a couple of projects that people have hired him for. For example, the Tuskegee Airmen hired him to make banners for their upcoming celebration. He’s been working with this lattice design on kites, and they’ve been a HUGE hit. So, he thought he’d try his hand at banners.

Let’s just say that these are the only lattice banners he’ll ever make. They’re beautiful, but a HUGE pain in the ass to make. I mean, it took him WEEKS of constant work to get 8 done. It probably averaged out to about 10 – 12 hours per banners.

But, aren’t they pretty? (If you’re wondering, the numbers are the squadron numbers that the Tuskegee Airmen were a part of. They’re organized in the order in which they were developed. 332 was the first, and then the rest fell in after that.)

This photo was taken right across the street from my mom’s shop. Yes, it’s true, you can see the Currituck Lighthouse from her store. This is about an hour drive from my house, in case you’re wondering. And before you ask, no, I’m not going to work for my mom. She can’t afford to pay me what I need to survive.

The end.

News

So, I can finally write.

I quit my job yesterday. No, I don’t have another job lined up yet. But, I haven’t been paid in a month or so from my current job, and was told last week that there’s no money coming because my boss didn’t have any money to pay me with. I’ve updated my resume and have been working on it for the last few weeks, but it just wasn’t working. This makes me very sad, but now I’m a bit relieved. Sadly, my work-from-home stint was short lived. But, it enabled me to move home and get back to my island.

So, my brother came to town this weekend. He brought his girlfriend to meet my parents, and that went really well. Then, on Sunday night, the best thing in the world happened. My brother got engaged!!! I LOVE his girlfriend. She’s really nice, down to earth, and funny. And, to be completely honest, I don’t think I’ve ever seen my brother so happy in my life. When he’s with her, he has this huge grin plastered on his face.

So, there you have it. I have to get back into the habit of writing. My job and lack of pay was weighing down on me pretty heavily over the last few weeks. I had to go back on the anti-depressants, but hopefully I can get off of them for good before too much longer.

meh

My back isn’t as bad as it was a couple of weeks ago, but it still hurts every day. Today is especially bad, with bending over to put on my socks hurting. I just called a local chiropractor to find out about how much it would cost, but even with the breaks that the doctor gives to uninsured people, I still can’t afford it.

I also need to go back on my meds. I went off them about 2 weeks ago because of the money, but the gray cloud has reemerged in my life, and I just can’t seem to find a reason to be happy. Fortunately, I think my mom’s doctor gave her some samples… hopefully she’ll be willing to share the love with me. Because otherwise, that’s $100 that I don’t really have unless it’s coming from my dad-loan for my damn credit card.

Things aren’t really good right now. In fact, they’re really quite bad and depressing. I wish I could expand, but the crazy lady in my past taught me lessons. I’m so afraid of the economy right now, I can’t handle it.
